Rebirth of ‘Criminal Minds’ in early development at Paramount + – Deadline

Paramount + is eyeing the return of the popular long-running CBS procedure Criminal minds. A revival series is under development in the next streamer, sources close to the project told Deadline.

The project is in initial discussions and a creative team is being assembled, we hear.

Representatives from CBS Studios, Paramount + and ABC Signature declined to comment.

Created by Jeff Davis, Criminal minds aired on CBS for 15 seasons, from 2005 to 2020. It remains one of the most popular off-network titles on Netflix, which probably sparked interest in a restart of the ViacomCBS streamer.

The original series followed a group of criminal profilers who work for the FBI as members of its Behavioral Analysis Unit, using behavioral analysis and profiles to investigate crimes and find criminals. The program told the story of the team as they worked on various cases and faced their personal struggles.

Throughout his performance, cast members included Mandy Patinkin, Shemar Moore, Joe Mantegna, Aisha Tyler, Matthew Gray Gubler, Thomas Gibson, Lola Glaudini, Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster, among others.

The show spawned two spinoffs, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.

Paramount + will launch its new CBS All Access brand on March 4.
