Realme 8 Pro includes a 108 megapixel camera

Officially launched in the UK today, the Realme 8 Pro is an economical device that is one of the first to use the new 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor in its main camera. Although similar high-resolution sensors were more common on more expensive phones like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, this chip was designed for low-cost devices like the 8 Pro.

This 108 megapixel chip is not the same used in last year’s S21 Ultra or even S20 Ultra. It is a smaller sensor – 1 / 1.52 inch versus 1 / 1.33 inch – with slightly smaller pixels of 0.7 μm. However, it uses the same binning approach to improve light collection skills by combining neighboring pixels into a 12-megapixel image with less noise.

The Realme 8 Pro offers a 6.4-inch OLED screen, a Snapdragon 720G processor with 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a 4,500 mAh battery that supports 50W fast charging. The back of the device, which comes in variations of blue and black, features an intense Realme brand with the company’s slogan “Dare to Leap” in large fluorescent letters that – the company claims – glow in the dark. Realme also says that the design will attract “a new generation of younger users”, which we will have to believe.

The 8 Pro will go on sale on March 31 in the UK for £ 279 (about $ 380).
