‘Real World New York’ Cast Reunion Series – Paramount + Premiere Date

This is the real story of seven reality show pioneers chosen to meet in a loft and have their lives recorded … and you know the rest.

Basic reality veteran The real world is helping to launch the renamed Paramount + platform (formerly CBS All Access) on March 4 with the debut of The Real World Homecoming: New York, TVLine learned. The six-episode documentary series will bring together the original seven strangers as they revisit the shocking moments and burning questions they faced during their historic season and discuss how their experience is parallel to today’s world and society.

“After spending decades apart, viewers will meet with New York housemates Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell to find out how the series has transformed their lives since the cameras stopped spinning and to discover, once again, what it happens when they stop being polite and start to get real ”, says the official description.

The real world is credited with creating the reality show genre and was one of the first series to address important and unrepresented topics such as LGBTQ, race, gender, HIV / AIDS and religion, ”said MTV Entertainment Group President Chris McCarthy in a communicated. “With Paramount + being home to so many successful global reality franchises, it seems appropriate to bring back the franchise and the cast that started everything for the launch.”

Created for MTV by Jonathan Murray and the late Mary-Ellis Bunim, The real world gained prominence in 1992, having been celebrated for its diverse cast and precise portrait of youth culture. The original series spanned 33 seasons (the last of which was released on Facebook Watch in 2019) and spawned two spinoff series, Traffic rules and the competition series The challenge, which is currently in its 36th season.

This is the second cast of the franchise to receive the reunion treatment. In 2007, MTV produced a mini spinoff season entitled Gathered: The Real World Las Vegas, who brought the entire cast of Season 12 back to the Palms Hotel and Casino suite they lived in.
