A Texas realtor who took a private jet to the US Capitol riot is barred from using PayPal to accept donations, the company said.
Jennifer Ryan, who serves for Jenna Ryan on social media, was charged last week after federal officials said she breached the Capitol on January 6 with other supporters of then President Donald Trump.
The Dallas-based realtor was accused of disorderly conduct on Capitol land and intentionally entering or remaining in any restricted building or land without legal entry.
On Thursday, Ryan tweeted a link to his PayPal account and asked for help with paying his legal fees and “losses due to my arrest and charges”. She received $ 1,000 before PayPal closed the account.
“I’m surrounded by hateful people who call me a racist and ask me to go to prison for 10 or 20 years and say all kinds of horrible things about me. They don’t even know me. They want my business destroyed. I need help, patriots. “, she wrote in a deleted tweet.
PayPal said that while he has a long-standing policy of allowing fundraising for legal defense, Ryan violated his policies by requesting money for additional purposes.
“PayPal scrutinizes the accounts and if we find that the funds are used for anything other than legal defense, the account will be subject to immediate closure,” a company spokesman said in a statement on Friday.
Ryan did not immediately return a phone call and e-mail to comment on Friday.
Federal officials said in court documents released last week that Ryan traveled with a group on a private plane to Washington DC earlier this month. In a Facebook video that has already been deleted, the real estate agent said it “would go down and invade the Capitol”.
“They are there now and that’s why we came and that’s what we’re going to do. So wish me luck, ”she said, according to court documents.
Investigators said it was also broadcast live when entering the Capitol and tweeted about it hours later.
“We just invaded the Capital [sic]. It was one of the best days of my life, “she wrote.
During an interview on NBC’s “Today” program, Ryan said he went to the Capitol because he believes the election was rigged, but denied participating in the violence.
“I was like, ‘I don’t want to be here’ and so I left the Capitol,” she said. “And they went on and I thought I won’t be a part of it, whatever it is. So I was just there to document it from that point on, because I really saw it as a protest.”
Five people died during the rape, including a Capitol police officer.
