RB Mike Boone signs 2-year contract

The Denver Broncos agreed to a two-year contract with running back Mike Boone, according to Mike Klis of KUSA-TV. Boone is a 25-year-old running back who spent the first three years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings under the command of the current Broncos general manager, George Paton.

The full terms of the contract are not yet known, but Klis said the deal includes $ 2.6 million in guaranteed cash.

This may partially explain why Denver gave running back Phillip Lindsay an original round proposal that will allow him to negotiate with other teams. Paton appears to be willing to replace Lindsay with Boone.

If Lindsay signs an offer sheet with another team that the Broncos does not want to match, Lindsay’s new team will not have to negotiate any compensation from Denver in exchange for the running back.

Boone (5-10, 206 pounds) may have been hired to serve as the new addition to proprietor Melvin Gordon. Boone joined the NFL as an uncapped free agent leaving Cincinnati with the Vikings in 2018.

For the past three years in Minnesota, Boone has served as a key player on special teams and rotating running back. He ran 71 times for 379 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per load. Boone also managed seven passes for 28 yards in 40 career games with the Vikings.
