“When Ray Donovan went off the air after seven great seasons, we heard from many of his loyal fans that they were not ready to say goodbye to Ray and the wonderfully dysfunctional Donovan clan,” Showtime executive Gary Levine told the channel. ‘And so, for them, we are delighted that Leo and David are creating an exciting new chapter in this iconic series.’

Production is scheduled to begin in New York on an undetermined date.

When the program’s cancellation was announced in February 2020, Schreiber promised ‘there will be more’ of the character in an Instagram post.

‘It’s hard to describe how amazing it is for us in the Ray Donovan family who have been fortunate enough to experience the overwhelming love and support that you have all expressed through our program since the news that Ray was not coming back was released,’ he said at the time. “What’s even more incredible is that it looks like your voices have been heard.”
