‘Ray Donovan’ returns with feature film – Deadline

Ray Donovan After all, fans will have a satisfying ending to their favorite Showtime series.

The fixer is returning in a feature film, which will continue where the seventh season left off after its surprise cancellation last year.

Liev Schreiber will return as Donovan and will co-write the script with showrunner David Hollander, who will direct. Jon Voight will also repeat his role as Mickey Donovan, as well as Kerris Dorsey as Ray’s daughter, Bridget.

Production is tentatively scheduled to begin later this year in New York.

This happens after Showtime made the surprise decision to end the series in February 2020 with its seventh season. Hollander admitted that the show’s creative team was taken aback by the decision and Schreiber turned to social media to promise that “there will be more Ray Donovan”. The actor kept his promise.

The film begins where the seventh season left off, with Mickey in the wind and Ray determined to find him and stop him before he can cause more carnage. He will also weave the current consequences of the Donovan / Sullivan rivalry with Ray and Mickey’s origin story from 30 years ago.

Seventh season [SPOILER ALERT] he saw Donovan get as close as he had ever done to things collapsing around him. He was working to be the man his family needs him to be. While making progress with Dr. Amiot (Alan Alda), there were dangers from the past that required Ray Donovan of yore. Among New York City Mayor Ed Feratti (Zach Grenier), a relentless NYPD officer in search of truth and old and new customers, Ray struggled to find the balance between fixing customers and fixing himself. And when Feratti’s corruption brought a piece of Mickey’s (Voight) past back to New York, Ray was forced to seek answers to long-buried questions. Despite the suspense at the end, Ray Donovan took a complete turn with Ray finally avenging the murder of his sister, who started the series in the pilot episode.
