Ravens makes proposals to Gus Edwards and two other free agents

The Ravens made proposals for three free agents: the running back Gus Edwards, the Trystan Colon-Castillo center and the linebacker Kristian Welch.

Edwards is a restricted free agent and one of the Ravens’ main running backs. General manager Eric DeCosta said on Tuesday that the team is working on an extension.

“Gus will be on the team, one way or another,” said DeCosta on Tuesday. “We will certainly offer it if we don’t get a long-term deal, but he is a Raven. He threw his ass this year and had a good season for us.”

Edwards, 25, has been very productive and stable for the Ravens for the past three seasons. The back injury averages 5.2 yards per transport and 717 yards per season. Last year, he reached his career record with six touchdowns and showed a little more as a receiver.

Colon-Castillo and Welch are both exclusive rights-free agents who joined the team as uninvited newbies last year. Colon-Castillo started two games when Patrick Mekari was sidelined and played well. Welch appeared in 10 games and was an important part of the team’s special teams unit. He saw eight defensive clicks, all at the end of the regular season.
