Ravens adds Rob Ryan to the team

Rob Ryan will be back next season in the NFL. The Ravens hired the former defensive coordinator as an internal coach for the linebackers.

Ryan was out for another season in 2020, after a one-year stay as an internal coach for the Washington linebackers in 2019. The 58-year-old assistant was an e-done in each of his last roles, leaving Buffalo after Rex Ryan was fired in 2016.

The Ravens will be the ninth team to employ Ryan as an assistant. Starting his career as a Cardinals DBs coach with his father Buddy Ryan in the mid-1990s, Rob served as a defensive coordinator for four teams – Browns, Raiders, Cowboys and Saints – from 2004 to 15. The Saints fired him after his defense set an NFL record for allowed touchdown passes in 2015.

Jay GrudenThe dismissal in Washington drove Ryan out of the league again after the start of 2019. But the brash employee will now oversee Patrick Queendevelopment of under DC Don Martindale. John Harbaugh saw linebackers coach Mike Macdonald defect for Jim HarbaughMichigan team, leaving a spot in Baltimore. The Ravens, who have had Rex Ryan on the team for 10 seasons – including during John Harbaugh’s 2008 debut – will fill that position with a high profile candidate.
