CLEVELAND, Ohio – Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins would love to continue walking the red carpet with the Browns, but he knows he can reach the free agent market in a few weeks.
“I haven’t seen an offer yet, ” Higgins told cleveland.com on Friday.
Higgins and most other Browns’ pending free agents have yet to receive offers because the salary cap has yet to be determined, and the start of the free agent is still just over two weeks away.
Teams can start negotiating with players with contracts that expire on March 15 and consummate those deals on March 17, the start of the league year.
The Browns are very fond of Higgins and would like to have him back at the right price. According to spotrac.com, its market value is about four years, $ 24.75 million – an average of more than $ 6 million a year – which may be more than the Browns want to pay.
They have more than $ 30 million tied up in 2021 at Odell Beckham Jr. ($ 15.75 million) and Jarvis Landry ($ 14.753 million), and may not want the reception room to occupy more than 20% of the anticipated $ limit 185 million.
But Higgins had a good 2020 season, picking up 37 of 49 targets for 599 yards and four TDs, despite starting just six games after Beckham suffered an ACL break. A choice in the fifth round in 2016 outside the state of Colorado, he is also a favorite target of Baker Mayfield, who scored 126.1 in 2020 when targeting Higgins, a tall club.
In the last off-season, Higgins joined the free agency, but re-signed a one-year contract with the Browns for $ 910,000, making some slightly higher offers to stay in Cleveland. In an interview at ESPN 850 on Friday afternoon, Higgins acknowledged that he is not sure he will be back.
“We want to see when we can complete this contract and stuff,” he said. “Obviously, if it isn’t with the Browns – we want it to be with the Browns – but it’s in the air now. ”
He indicated that he would take the chance to sign again here.
“Listen, don’t give up on me. I never gave up on you, ” he said. “Tell Andrew [Berry] to send the papers and I’m signing wherever I have to sign. ”
