Rapper Silento accused of murdering his older cousin

Rapper Silento was arrested on Monday for allegedly fatally shooting his older cousin outside Atlanta last month, officials said.

The 23-year-old “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)” singer, whose real name is Richard Lamar Hawk, was charged with murder on January 21, shooting death by Frederick Rooks, 34, according to the Police Department from DeKalb County.

Rooks was found with several gunshot wounds in a residential neighborhood in Panthersville, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, citing the police.

Surveillance images obtained by investigators showed several cars fleeing the scene and at least one shot from a firearm, according to an incident report obtained by the newspaper.

The reason for the fatal shooting remains unclear.

Hawk had several recent disagreements with the law that led to his arrest on Monday, including two arrests in a week last August in California, the report said.

In one case, Hawk allegedly broke into a random Los Angeles home by wielding an ax in search of his girlfriend.

The rapper’s 2015 hit, “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)”, received almost 1.8 billion views on YouTube.
