The New York Rangers lost their third game in a row tonight, when they were defeated 4-0 by Boston Bruins. New York made a jump early in the game, but that quickly disappeared when Boston scored a goal early on, and went on with a shorthanded goal. Alexandar Georgiev had another difficult exit in the area, allowing four goals in 14 shots, and was pulled early in the second period.
1st period
David Pastrnak (12) – Brad Marchand (17) and Patrice Bergeron (14) – 4:14
With Rangers looking for a better start in this game, he started to act in the offensive zone with some solid changes. However, the Bruins were able to reverse the script when David Pastrnak defeated Alexandar Georgiev from inside the blue line. There wasn’t much, if any, screen in the game when Pastrnak fired over Georgiev’s right shoulder to score 1-0.
Patrice Bergeron (10) – Brad Marchand (18) SHG – 17:34
New York had a golden opportunity to return to the game at the end of the first period, when they started working on their first power play. As has been happening lately, Rangers’ power play actually worked against them, since the Bruins had several chances to score when they were shorthanded. They finally caught up with Rangers when Brad Marchand defeated Pavel Buchnevich with a play, and he found Patrice Bergeron at the right post. The Rangers simply lost consciousness and were defeated by two goals.
2nd period
David Krejci (1) – Matt Grzelcyk (6) and Brad Marchand (19) PPG – 3:31
Although the Rangers were unable to make the most of their chances for a power game, Boston made the most of their opportunities. David Krejci managed to hit only his first goal of the season with a rocket from the first circles. The kick hit Alexandar Georgiev from the side of the glove, who stretched to make a save.
Jake DeBrusk (2) – David Krejci (12) – 4:52
A little over a minute later, Boston continued to attack by extending its lead to four goals. The Bruins’ forecheck gave the Rangers a lot of trouble below the goal line, and K’Andre Miller ended up eliminating with the puck on his stick. David Krejci was able to steal the loose disc and found Jake DeBrusk wide open at the top of the fold. The goal ended Georgiev’s night for the second game in a row and Keith Kinkaid was relieved for the rest of the game.
3rd period
No punctuation.
This was quite an embarrassing endeavor for all intents and purposes, and the Rangers’ attack did not appear again. The goalkeeper has also been a problem for New York, as Alexandar Georgiev was eliminated earlier for the second consecutive game. Artemiy Panarin and Igor Shesterkin are about to return, while Vitali Kravtsov will return from Russia after being eliminated from the KHL Playoffs. However, the Rangers will need to reverse this very quickly if they plan to even sniff out the playoffs at those points.
Having points lost in this way will only hurt you throughout the season, and the Rangers have done a lot of that so far. After tonight’s embarrassing effort, the Rangers will go again on Saturday afternoon to end the game of two against Boston Bruins.
