Update: And to continue all of this, the leader of the Grass-type gym in Celadon City has just been defeated. Rainbow emblem received!

Another week has passed, so what’s happening in the social media experiment that Twitter plays Pokémon Red… inside the avatar of a talented programmer? Well, keep reading!

After defeating Misty, leader of the Cerulean City Water-type Gym, Twitter boarded SSAnne in Vermilion City and faced his former rival Blue. According to reports (through the Discord channel for this social media experiment), The Twitter party was not in its best state of struggle against everyone on board and did not bother to recover before the big game. Fortunately, it was a relatively easy battle with Fearow, now known as “CHAD”, in the end, delivering a super effective blow to Blue’s Ivysaur.

Not long after this HM01 (Cut) was acquired, and a few days after the big win against Misty, Twitter was able to defeat Electric Vermilion gym leader Lieutenant Surge. Despite all the odds, Twitter was able to solve the gym puzzle on the first try and did a quick job with the coaches on the main floor. In the battle against Ten Surge, Twitter fielded Rock-type Geodude. He cleaned up the entire Surge group and defeated his final pocket monster, Raichu, in one stroke. The reward, of course, was the emblem of thunder.

Since then, Twitter has gone through Diglett Cave, acquired HM05 (Flash), had a Geodude and Oddish evolving, made its way through Rock Tunnel and, more recently, obtained HM02 (Fly) and won a free Eevee.

The current group consists of a Level 27 Fearow (CHAD), Level 27 Graveler (ABBPRI), Level 30 Wartortle (AMAYBE), Level 28 Alakazam, Level 22 Gloom (Curse) and a Level 25 Eevee (DHY).

So, these are three badges at the time of writing – who knows what Twitter will have achieved in the game by the end of next week. Are you as impressed as we are with the progress the internet has made so far, considering that it is playing inside someone’s avatar on Twitter?
