Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is advising Americans to “throw their masks in the trash” after being vaccinated against Covid-19.
“Instead of listening to the government’s admonitions, look at the science of immunology: and when you’re two weeks without the vaccine or recovering from the real infection, throw off your mask and live again,” wrote Paul on a Monday night message on twitter.
Paul’s comment goes against the recommendations of both the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci that citizens should still consider wearing a mask, even after vaccination. Paul and Fauci always disagree with scientific evidence and responsible government and citizen behavior.
Paul, a 58-year-old ophthalmologist, became the first member of the Senate to hire Covid-19 on March 22, almost a year ago. He overcame the virus despite losing part of a lung, which he had removed in 2019, after being injured during a conflict with his neighbor. Your father, ex-rep. Much to the critics’ dismay, however, Paul abandoned the mask shortly after his recovery. Sen. Democrat Sherrod Brown (OH) raised the issue recently in February, saying in a speech in the Senate that he wanted to ask “in front of everyone” that Paul “start wearing a mask on the Senate floor”. CNN’s Chris Cillizza regretted the problem that same month in a column entitled: “Why doesn’t Rand Paul wear just a mask?”
Paul explained his objection last year, telling reporters in May: “I have immunity. I already had the virus, so I can’t get it again and I can’t pass it on to anyone. I can’t catch it again, nor can I transmit. So, of all the people you’ll find here, I’m pretty much the only safe person in Washington. “
