Rams quarterbacks Jared Goff and John Wolford are expected to have an open competition for the starting position next season if both remain on the list, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Goff, 26, has been the Rams’ full-time full-back for the past four years and led the team to a Super Bowl appearance during the 2018 season. Wolford, 25, has been with the Rams on reserve since signing in April. 2019.
Wolford debuted in the 17 week Los Angeles victory over the Cardinals on January 9, when Goff was recovering from thumb surgery. He was also named the holder in the wild card round, but left early due to a neck injury.
In his victory at Week 17, Wolford recorded 231 passing yards and 56 running yards with an interception.
The Rams “liked what they saw” of Wolford during the time he played and liked what he showed on the training ground, by Rapoport.
As for a potential Goff trade, Rams GM Les Snead left his options open.
“What I can say is that Jared Goff is a Ram right now,” said Snead on Tuesday. “It is too early to speculate about the future. It’s a beautiful mystery. “
Goff has recorded 45 wins in total, including three playoff wins, in the past four seasons with the Rams. This is the second largest in the NFL, behind Tom Brady (55). He is under contract until 2024.
