Rams finalizing negotiation to send DL Michael Brockers to Lions

The Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams are back.

Having previously agreed to switch defenders in an agreement that is expected to become official at the start of the new league year, the Rams is finalizing an agreement to send veteran striker Michael Brockers to Lions, said Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

It’s another exchange involving new Lions general managers Brad Holmes and his former team, after the previous exchange that sent Matthew Stafford to the Rams in exchange for Jared Goff plus draft choices that will become official on Wednesday, at the beginning of a new league year.

As the Rams began to restructure a series of contracts to stay below the salary cap, they asked Brockers to do it too, but the sides were unable to agree on the terms, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Taken in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the then St. Louis Rams, Brockers has been one of the pillars of the franchise in the starting lineup since its debut year. Perhaps lost among a bunch of much-vaunted Rams defenders who ended the 2020 campaign as the top-ranked defense, Brockers produced 51 tackles and five sacks for LA

The defensive side should bring a veteran Super Bowl-experienced presence to a rebuilding Detroit defense that has long sought to improve its passing run. Brockers is to praise Romeo Okwara recently re-signed.

Brockers will also see a familiar face in Goff, although it may be a little strange, considering that Brockers recently said on Good Morning Football that Rams getting Stafford would be a “turning point where we can just win the big game.”

Now, Brockers is heading for a turning point in his career, as the nine-year-old veteran is set to play for a different team than the Rams for the first time.
