CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Clouds and some rain will start moving to Lowcountry today, as we transition to warmer weather as we enter the new year! We expect a generally cloudy sky today with a few showers possible this morning and afternoon. Today’s highs will be in their 50s near I-95, with coastal areas in the mid-60s. Pick up umbrellas today and keep them around for the next few days. Sparse showers will be a possibility on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, with some rays of sunshine mixed on both days. Temperatures will be much hotter with highs in the 70s on New Year’s Eve and mid-70s on New Year’s Day. A cold front will approach the area on Friday night, bringing a small chance of storms. This front will stagnate across the area on Friday night and Saturday morning and a low pressure area will follow along the Gulf of Mexico front through the area on Saturday. This will increase the chance of rain even later on Saturday until Saturday night. The rain should end early Sunday morning with morning clouds giving way to the afternoon sun.
