Famous chef Rachael Ray and her husband John Cusimano suffered a devastating fire in their New York home last summer. Rachael just gave an update on the reconstruction process and explained why seeing it being rebuilt has been difficult.
The Rachael Ray Show presenter gave the update during her show this week, as previously reported by Entertainment Tonight. Rachael and John are living in a guesthouse on the same property, but gave viewers a look at the frame of their home while it was being built.
“This is the wall where I heard the fire going up,” said Rachael as he showed his room: “The last time I was here there was literally no roof.”
Later, Rachael and John appeared together on camera, saying that they would stay at the guesthouse until the reconstruction of their home was “completed”. She also explained why it was easier to see the house undone after the fire, which started in the chimney, than to see it start to be rebuilt.
“John and I were arguing that, somehow, it was easier to just watch it go, and the hole in the floor that is our basement is all that’s left,” she said in another video on her website. “It was a little easier not to be there than to be inside a frame and see everything white around you, because then you really noticed …”
“What’s missing,” said John. Rachael added: “What is everything.”
But Rachael ended the YouTube video by saying that she and John wanted to share the video with viewers because they were very supportive during the process.
“You are so kind and have shared a lot with us in your thoughts and prayers and your very beautiful, very open and honest letters,” she said. “Thank you for letting us into your lives and for trusting us.”
