Quinton Dunbar and Detroit Lions sign 1-year contract

Veteran defender Quinton Dunbar is signing a one-year contract with Detroit Lions, his agency, Elite Loyalty Sports, said on Monday.

Dunbar joins the Lions after a season full of injuries at the Seattle Seahawks, who hired him last March only to see him play in six games – all started – because of a knee problem that required surgery at the end of the season .

Dunbar, 28, ended 2020 with an interception and five defending passes.

Lions general manager Brad Holmes said high school is an area of focus for his team, who also hired cornerback Corn Elder last week.

“The position of the corner – and I can say that with more than just the position of the corner – is a position that we will continue to address now throughout the entire process, right up to the draft and even after the draft, if necessary,” Holmes said told reporters last week, according to The Detroit News. “But it is definitely a position that will not be forgotten or ignored. It is a young group that we have now. I really like the group that we have, in terms of youth and advantages. … But this is a position that we will continue to look at to address now and along the draft. “

The Seahawks acquired Dunbar for a fifth-round pick in a March negotiation with the Washington Football Team. He missed most of the off-season program and the start of the training camp while dealing with charges of armed robbery, which were later dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Dunbar made 25 appearances over five seasons with Washington, which hired him as a non-hired Florida free agent in 2015. He started his career in the NFL as a wide receiver, then was converted to a cornerback as a rookie. He has 10 career interceptions and a sack over his six seasons.

Washington signed a $ 10.5 million contract with Dunbar for three years after the 2017 season. The Seahawks inherited the last year of this deal, which paid Dunbar about $ 3.34 million in 2020.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson contributed to this report.
