Queen Noor, mother of detained Jordanian prince Hamzah, blames ‘wicked slander’ for her son’s detention

Queen Noor, the American mother of Jordan’s former Crown Prince Hamzah, has denounced “wicked slander” against her son, who says he is under house arrest. Noor tweeted: “Praying that truth and justice will prevail for all innocent victims of this wicked slander. God bless you and keep you safe. “The former Crown Prince said in a video broadcast by the BBC that he is under house arrest and that several of his friends have been arrested and that his security detachment has been removed. Jordan’s army said Hamzah, who now has no official role in the kingdom, was asked to stop “some activities that could be used to undermine Jordan’s stability and security”. Jordanian officer Ayman Safadi told reporters on Sunday that Hamzah had conspired with influential figures at home and abroad “about the best time to initiate measures to undermine the security of our challenging Jordan”.

The army denied having detained the former Crown Prince, accused of criticizing the King of Jordan, King Abdullah II, and said the kingdom was “blocked by corruption, nepotism and mismanagement”. Meanwhile, Jordan’s critical allies in the Gulf region supported Jordan’s actions and expressed support for the king.
