Queen Elizabeth is ‘well’ isolating herself, said a palace source: It is ‘the only rest she has ever had’

Queen Elizabeth II is apparently enjoying a much-needed break after decades of royal duties.

The British monarch spent most of last year isolating herself at Windsor Castle with her husband, Prince Philip, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. According to palace sources, the 94-year-old woman is taking the extra time for herself.

“In your twilight years, I’m sure it’s very good not to have the pressure [of a full calendar of public events]”a source close to the queen told People magazine on Thursday.

“It is possible that this is the only rest she has had in her entire life,” continued the source. “She is fine. She is in good condition.”

The channel shared that Elizabeth usually works mainly in London, while Philip, 99, lives at Wood Farm near Sandringham. The Duke of Edinburgh retired from royal duties in 2017.

But now that the couple is isolating themselves, they are having dinner together every night. And throughout the pandemic, Elizabeth has been enjoying her free time riding her Fell ponies.

“She goes into a peaceful way when she’s on horses,” said Monty Roberts, a close friend and equine advisor.

Even though Elizabeth has been largely out of the public eye since 2020, she has not completely forgotten about her royal duties. In April, she addressed the pandemic with an inspiring speech and also gave its annual Christmas broadcast. And, like many of us, she trusts Zoom to connect with colleagues and loved ones.

On New Year’s Eve, the queen declared “better days will come” in a caption from a 2020 photo collage shared on Instagram.

Elizabeth, along with Philip, also received the coronavirus vaccine at Windsor Castle earlier this month. She also sent Joe Biden a private message before he officially took over as President of the United States.

Last April, the queen’s son, Prince Charles, confirmed that he had contracted COVID-19. The Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, isolated themselves in Scotland, where they recovered. Months later, it was reported that Prince William also contracted the virus.
