Russian President Vladimir Putin now says he will receive his country’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, a month after saying he would not be injected with it.
A Kremlin spokesman told a Russian state TV channel about the reversal.
“He made that decision and was waiting until all the formalities were completed,” said Dmitry Peskov.
The 68-year-old leader worked remotely and avoided traveling since the pandemic began. He said one of his daughters participated in a clinical trial for the Sputnik V vaccine, which the country claims was more than 90% effective, and that she felt good after that.
Russians over 60 can start signing up for vaccines on Monday, a day after health officials approved the vaccine for the elderly after a separate test.
Russia has about 2.8 million cases of coronavirus and about 49,000 deaths from the virus, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
