Publix to offer coronavirus vaccines at Pinellas, Pasco stores

More Tampa Bay Publix sites will soon offer coronavirus vaccines to patients age 65 and older, the supermarket chain said on Tuesday.

The counties of Pinellas and Pasco were included in the vaccination program of the company Lakeland, which offers the Modern vaccine at selected Publix sites.

Florida residents aged 65 and over are eligible and can start booking appointments online on Wednesday from 6am. More seats will be available on Friday at 7am. The commitments will start on Thursday and end on Wednesday, February 11.

Hillsborough County stores have not yet been added. Hernando County sites already offer the vaccine. Nassu County was also added to the program on Tuesday.

The new additions take Publix’s vaccination program to 325 stores in 23 municipalities in the state.

“We understand how many people in our communities want to receive this critical vaccine and it is our privilege to administer doses to Florida residents,” said CEO Todd Jones in a statement. “With each distribution, we remain grateful for the role we can play to help protect the health and safety of as many people as possible in our communities.”

The latest offers for the Publix vaccine are part of a partnership with the state.

Publix spokeswoman Maria Brous confirmed that Publix is also a partner in the new federal vaccine program, but said the company is waiting for more details, such as how many doses it will receive. She said the retailer hopes to continue receiving vaccines from the state as well.

Publix listed 19 Pasco stores and 42 Pinellas stores as participants in the most recent launch.

Appointments must be made in advance. Those wishing to be vaccinated must bring proof of residency to receive the vaccine and can register for consultations at publix.com/covidvaccine.
