Publix administers more than 250,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in Florida

LAKELAND, Florida – (BUSINESS WIRE) – To date, Publix Pharmacy has administered more than 250,000 doses of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine to customers in Florida and more than 300,000 total doses of the vaccine in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia.

“Publix is a company founded on a commitment to service and I am proud of the role we played in the past month to serve our communities during this time of need,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones. “There is a huge demand for this vaccine and we are grateful that our customers are looking for and trusting us to supply it. We hope that continued collaboration with the states in our area and the federal government will allow us to rapidly increase the number of clients that we can vaccinate in the coming weeks. ”

This week, the company received doses from the state of Florida and the federal government, allowing Publix Florida pharmacies to administer the vaccine to eligible individuals at 593 locations in 41 Florida counties, starting on February 12. To date, Publix Pharmacy has administered 100% of the more than 250,000 first doses of the vaccine that has been provided.

The company began administering the Moderna vaccine on January 7, starting with a pilot effort at 22 stores in Florida, just days after the state asked retailers for help in administering the vaccine. In the following weeks, the company was able to expand COVID-19 vaccination appointments to Georgia and South Carolina, and earlier this month it started vaccinating in Virginia as well.

Publix continues to communicate with states in its operational area to provide the COVID-19 vaccine as part of its distribution efforts.

Vaccines are provided to eligible individuals at selected locations, by appointment only and while supplies last, through the online reservation system at publix.com/covidvaccine. It is not possible to make appointments by calling Publix or Publix Pharmacy.

As doses of the COVID-19 vaccine become available, the company announces the dates and times of operation of the reservation system in each state. Customers who receive the first dose at a Publix Pharmacy are automatically scheduled to receive the second dose at the same location four weeks after the first dose is administered.

Vaccines are provided at no cost to the individual. Clients with scheduled appointments must bring their Medicare Part B health or red, white and blue card to the appointment. Customers without health insurance will need to provide their driver’s license or Social Security number.
