MADISON, Wisconsin – Public Health Madison and Dane County released a variety of new COVID-19 data on Friday as part of their weekly update.
The data was compiled over a two-week period, from 18 to 31 January.
At that time, almost half of Dane County residents who tested positive for the virus lived outside Madison.
The overall case rate in the county was 30 cases per 10,000 people. Seven counties had case rates that were “significantly” higher than the county’s overall rate: Cambridge, Verona, Marshall, Stoughton, McFarland, Deforest and Waunakee.
The spring semester at the University of Wisconsin-Madison began on January 25. With the class back in session, PHMDC said the university continued to monitor the results of the COVID-19 tests among teachers, staff and students.
During the 14-day period, health officials said 17% of county cases were associated with UW. The University Health Services also conducted 54% of the tests among Dane County residents during the same period.
Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, a greater number of people aged 65 and over have already received the vaccine. The percentage of those who received at least one dose was 15.7% last week. That percentage grew to 28.9% this week.
To date, one in 10 people in Dane County has received the vaccine.
