Public health officials in talks to open covid-19 drive-thru vaccination site at the coliseum

Oakland Athletics and state and local public health officials are in discussions to launch a COVID-19 vaccination site at the Colosseum, a team spokesman confirmed on Monday.

According to Catherine Aker, a senior communications officer for the team, Alameda County and A’s public health officials are planning to launch the drive-through vaccination site in the Colosseum parking lot.

The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority is expected to vote on the establishment of the vaccination site during its Friday morning meeting.


Spokesmen for the Alameda County Department of Public Health and the California Department of Public Health were not immediately available to comment on the planned location.

State and local health officials plan to launch similar drive-thru vaccination sites at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Petco Park in San Diego and Cal Expo in Sacramento, Governor Gavin Newsom said on Monday.

“These great mass vaccination sites, you will start to see those popping up this week,” he said.

According to the California Department of Public Health, 185,297 COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the metropolitan bay area on Monday.
