Hoping to buy one PS5? Get in line. Sony’s next-generation console was launched about six weeks ago, but the stock was no match for demand and sold out instantly. Some subsequent write-offs since then have happened in the same way. At the moment, the only consoles you can buy are marked at obscene levels on sites like eBay and StockX, often several times their retail value of $ 400 or $ 500 (depending on the model you want). The console has been virtually impossible to find, with at least one person waiting in line for 36 hours to catch one on a California GameStop.

Other stock drops in the past few weeks were also sold out immediately, with any scarce stock available being no match for demand, especially as ordinary users had to compete with bots and resellers. A few days ago, Best Buy was offering both versions of the PS5, as well as a package that included the console and a copy of Marvel Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but it didn’t take more than 15 minutes to sell out, even with the retailer losing stock in waves. This means that, at the moment, all retailers are sold out again.
The PS5 is available in two versions: the $ 500 model with Blu-rayand an identical $ 400 digital version, without a disk slot. At this point, people are happy to get their hands on anyone, but if you don’t have an optical disc library – for Blu-ray movies, used games or old PS4 games – we recommend that you go with the $ 400 version.

OK, you have exhausted all online and physical retailers and have decided that you are willing to pay more than $ 300 to purchase this puppy by Christmas. As your friends, we have to tell you: Do not do it. But if you don’t want to hear us, take a look at StockX, an eBay alternative that made its name in the secondary market for sneakers and designer clothing. The last time we checked, PS5 prices were hovering around $ 700.
