PS5 Console Leads Early Sales Race

PS5 Console Leads Early Sales Race

The PlayStation 5 reportedly surpassed sales of six million consoles worldwide in early March – and this despite the scarcity linked mainly to the severe global scarcity of semiconductors.

VGChartz (via ScreenRant) indicates that as of March 6, both versions of the new console sold 6.08 million units – which compares to the 3.94 million Xbox Series X & Series S combined up to the same period.

To put that in perspective, this puts the PlayStation 5 on a par with the launch of the PlayStation 4 – the console launched in the same week in mid-November 2013 sold 6.0 million units on March 2, 2014.

In the week of February 28 to March 6 on its own, the PS5 sold about 201,033 units compared to the Xbox Series X | S that sold 103,237 and the Nintendo Switch long-lived that sold 423,187 units.

It is estimated that sales to money changers represent about 10% of all PS5 consoles sold.
