PS5 ’30th anniversary of PlayStation design ‘celebrates PS2 aesthetics

A Reddit fan posted his opinion on a special 30th anniversary PS5, inspired by the design of the PS2, which is the best-selling console of all time.

A fan designed a custom model PlayStation 5 console that honors PlayStation 2 to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. The first PThislayStation console was launched in 1994, which means that the Sony family of systems will have its 30th anniversary in 2024, four years after the PS5’s lifespan. It remains to be seen how Sony itself will celebrate this event.

Now, of course, the PlayStation is having a very busy year to worry about 2024. The launch of the PS5 proved to be a huge success in terms of sales, but for very few other reasons. Major retailers are facing a serious shortage of stock of the new machines, compounded by money changers who use bots to buy consoles in bulk and sell them at a high price. This made it almost impossible for the average consumer to get their hands on a new console. Worse, customers who give and buy from unscrupulous third parties can be deceived and receive a printed image of a PS5 instead of a real machine.

But this tumultuous present hasn’t stopped some fans from looking to the future anyway. Reddit user whattheefth presented his interpretation of a special 30th anniversary PS5. The console was rendered in black, not unlike another fan-made rendering that was released as official artwork shortly after the console was revealed. This design also cuts through the PS5’s distinctive blue lighting almost entirely, leading to a console designed after the classic PS2, launched by Sony in 2000. Modeling this fan design after the PS2 instead of the PS1 makes sense; after all, the PlayStation 2 is the best-selling video game console of all time.

Nostalgic PS2 fans are probably disappointed that this design is not real. But it is entirely within Sony’s power to create a custom console like this once its 30th anniversary arrives. Microsoft has already become quite wild with some of its own custom designs; the company even helped the fast food chain Bojangles to design a special fried chicken with the X Series theme. Certainly, if Sony decided to design a special 30th anniversary PS5, it wouldn’t be so ridiculous.

The PlayStation 5 represents a remarkably ostentatious design change for Sony, and all fans reacted to the look in different ways. But everyone expressed an interest in customization, which is something that has been a high priority for many players since the early days of console games. People want individuality, and to that end, traders are already selling unofficial facial plates that can be exchanged for those attached to the PS5. Hopefully, Sony will take these personalization dreams and launch a special edition PS5 that looks like what the fth project.
