Prospects for the Cowboys Draft for 2021: South Carolina CB Jaycee Horn Scouting Report

The Cowboys are in need of cornerbacks and with the tenth choice in the next NFL draft, they should be able to find one in the first round. One possibility is Jaycee Horn, from South Carolina.

If you go to Jaycee Horn, you better fix it. Horn is the most physical cornerback in this class, both on the cover and in the race. It allows little or no space outside the scrimmage line, at the top of the routes and at the meeting point. One of the most physical corners in the press coverage in this class and thanks for contact at all levels of the field. Punch your jam that makes the receivers attack you vertically in the middle. The appropriate arm length for the position matches well with your physical playing style. Alpha male attitude, and he lets opposing receivers know about it for 60 minutes. He has great skills with the ball and throws the ball in the air as a great receiver. He showed great confidence and balance with his back to football.

Weaknesses:

He will have to moderate his physicality when he is on the cover. If the style of play does not change, he will be impaired early in his career. Although it has fluid coverage, it appears to have no muscle contraction in its transitions, and long speed can be a problem. There were repetitions where he was caught with his eyes on the backfield, allowing the receivers to separate behind him. It had representatives where it fought in zones and it has some problems when in open space and in coverage. He drops his head and eyes in contact when attacking the race, which can result in an incorrect trip until he fixes these technical deficiencies.

The son of former Chiefs and Saints wide receiver Joe Horn, Jaycee Horn was born to hate the position in which his father had a successful career. Horn brings an alpha male mentality, man-press and man-out coverage skills and quality, size and physical length to the position of having a long and successful career in the NFL. Horn will need to rely on his technique at the next level and work hard not to get too caught up at the top of the routes, or he will be hampered in the early stages of his career. Horn showed great advances in his ball skills, instincts and running defense in 2020 and offers a high-floor and high-ceiling skill set for a team in the top 20, and can be an excellent fit for the Dan Quinn system with the tenth overall choice, or an ideal trade-off candidate if the Cowboys want to make a small play down in the NFL’s 2021 Draft.
