Prominent infectious disease physician from El Paso tested positive for Covid-19

Cheers

EL PASO, Texas – One of Borderland’s most prominent infectious disease specialists contracted Covid-19.

Dr. Ogechika Alozie, co-chair of the El Paso city task force Covid and a member of the Texas governor of infectious disease preparedness task force, told ABC-7 on Monday night that he and another family member tested positive for coronavirus.

Alozie said he does not know how he contracted the virus, who strictly observed infectious disease protocols, but somehow still contracted the virus.

The infectious disease specialist said he had only a mild headache, but kept his distance from fellow healthcare professionals and family for several days. He reiterated the importance of working with the contact tracking team at the municipal health department.

The irony is that Alozie was scheduled to be vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine less than 48 after the positive test result. With great caution, he decided to postpone vaccination until early January.
