A married UK teacher, convicted of having sex with her 15-year-old student, was sentenced to more than six years in prison.
Kandice Barber, 35, of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, was sentenced to six years and two months in prison on Friday at the Aylesbury Crown Court, Scottish Sun reported.
Barber, a mother of three, was convicted in January of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity for having sex with the teenager in a camp, but was found not guilty on two separate charges of the same charge.
She was arrested in March 2020, four months after the principal of the Princes Risborough School saw an explicit photo of her being shared at the high school about 40 miles northwest of London.
Judges during Barber’s hearing heard testimony that she started texting the teenager in 2018 after writing down his phone number at a school sporting event.
The duo’s messages quickly became “sexual” and Barber sent the boy photos of herself topless on Snapchat. Later, she took the 15-year-old boy to have sex with him in an isolated field.
Barber also sent the boy obscene text messages – including some while she was teaching him in class.
“You can’t make me blush when I’m teaching now, man,” said a message.
A teenager’s classmate said he also saw a message from Barber that said, “Do you prefer breasts or butt?”
The teenage student also shared with a friend a selfie in the shower sent to him by Barber, as well as another photo of her curled up on a bed.
Barber’s husband, however, supported his wife in court, telling jurors that their marriage was as “strong” as ever.
But a former Barber boyfriend said he had to end their relationship due to her insatiable sexual desire, Scottish Sun reported.
“When it came to sex, she was incredibly playful and that’s what got her into all these problems,” said Barber’s ex. “We would say somewhere and she would say: ‘pull over, I’m horny. It’s too much for me. “
As part of his sentence, Barber will be required to notify the police of his address for the rest of his life and is prohibited from working with vulnerable children and adults, reported the Evening Standard.
“I have no doubt that you have acted in flagrant breach of trust,” a judge told Barber. “You took advantage of a child in your care and prepared him for his own sexual gratification.”
