Pro Day Watch: South Carolina, USC, more

In the wake of the cancellation of the NFL Scouting Combine, the focus turned to the “professional days” faculty for Scouting for the 2021 NFL Draft. Here is an analysis of Tuesday’s professional days.

South Carolina

Following the news of Caleb Farley’s surgery, the door was open to Gamecocks’ Jaycee Horn chant to place himself directly in the CB1 debate with Patrick Surtain II. The son of the legend of the Saints and Pro Bowl WR Joe Horn did not disappoint in his professional day.

An aggressive press area with superior athletics, Horn has caught the attention of many people with his performance and will be seriously considered for a good choice in the first round. Like Surtain yesterday, the Giants are unlikely to consider Horn as the 11th overall choice after signing Adoree ‘Jackson. But he certainly has the talent to justify thinking at least.

Southern California

Speaking of Adoree ‘Jackson, his alma mater, USC, also made his professional day. For Giants fans looking for an answer in the right guard, Alijah Vera-Tucker may be the man for you.

An option at the end of the first round (with some even saying he could be a candidate for the Giants’ 11th choice), Tucker would make a solid guard in the NFL with prototypical size and athleticism.

Another important perspective is WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. Little brother of the current Packers in Equanimeous St. Brown, Amon-Ra has stood out with the Trojans and helped his draft with a solid performance on the professional day.

A likely choice for Day 2, St. Brown would likely go higher if it weren’t for the absolute talent as a wide receiver in this class. However, it will likely be a solid investment for any team (perhaps the Giants) that recruited him.

Finally, we went down to the state of Mississippi, where the running back Kylin Hill was on full display.

Coming from Joe Judge’s alma mater, Hill could present an intriguing option in the semi-final of the round for the Giants’ RB room, which currently only has Saquon Barkley and Devontae Booker on the list.

Looking forward

Thursday marks another big day for 2021 NFL Draft scouting, as Penn State will be hosting its professional day. Starring players like Micah Parsons, Jayson Oweh, Pat Freiermuth and Shaka Toney, Happy Valley is the place to be on Thursday for NFL scouts.
