COLOMBIA, SC (WOLO) – Prisma Health imposed restrictions on patient visits.
On Friday, Prisma announced the change, which is already in effect. Prisma officials say it is due to the growth of cases of Coronavirus in South Carolina.
According to a statement, the broad visitation will be stopped, but Prisma says it will work to keep families connected by other means, such as virtual visits using iPads.
Prisma said that some visits will still be allowed and listed the following situations.
- Pediatric patients, with only one care partner allowed 24-7 except for a one-hour daily transition period when both parents or legal guardians can be present for medical discussions and joint training.
- Obstetric patients who is it preterm, in imminent labor, labor, high-risk and postpartum may have a care partner.
- Patients undergoing sedative procedures, such as colonoscopies, may have a partner to care for.
- Case-by-case approval is required for visitation for those who require additional assistance from care partners, such as dementia patients.
- To assist the emergency department, the The emergency team will use their discretion in the interest of patient care in treating children, older adults and any patients with special needs.
- Up to three visitors may be allowed in end-of-life situations.
- Patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 are not allowed to receive visits, except under special approvals on a case-by-case basis.
According to Prisma, in relation to medical appointments, pediatric patients may have a care partner, except babies under 2 months, who may have both parents present. In addition, Prisma says that a care partner is allowed for adults with special needs.
