The name also incorporates a tribute to Eugenie’s grandfather, Prince Philip, while Hawke refers to Mr. Brooksbank’s great-great-grandfather.

Writing on Instagram, Eugenie made reference to his father’s 61st birthday, Prince Andrew, on Friday.

She said: ‘On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our son. He was named after his great-grandfather and his 5 great-grandparents.

‘Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are filled with love for this little human, words cannot express.

The photos are believed to have been taken by Eugenie’s midwife on the grounds of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where the couple is staying.

Eugenie, 30, is wearing a £ 204 gold velvet band from Jennifer Behr, while her 34-year-old husband cradles August, who is 11th in line to the throne, in a blue blanket.

Sarah Ferguson said on Instagram that she and Andrew were ‘thrilled and blessed with the arrival of our grandson … He is a beautiful blessing and a bearer of a lot of love and joy for our whole family’.
