Prince William said on Monday that Prince Philip is “fine” after his 99-year-old grandfather spent the sixth night in a London hospital.
“Yes, he is fine, they are keeping an eye on him,” said William during a visit to an English vaccination center when asked about Philip, who is the husband of Queen Elizabeth II.
Reporters said that William broke the news hopefully with a wink, although the video suggested that he may have just blinked while adjusting a mask.
Philip was admitted to the King Edward VII private hospital in London on Tuesday as “a precautionary measure” after feeling bad, Buckingham Palace said at the time.
His illness is not believed to be related to COVID-19. He and the queen, 94, received the first dose of a vaccine in early January and remained in a so-called “HMS bubble” at Windsor Castle.
His eldest son, heir to the throne, Prince Charles, was spotted visiting him at the hospital on Saturday.
Philip, also known as Duke of Edinburgh, married then Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and is the oldest royal consort in British history. He and the queen have four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He retired from public office in 2017, rarely appearing in public.
