Prince Harry’s disinformation work provokes reaction from UK commentators

Prince Harry is taking on a new role in the disinformation test, but the move has been criticized by British commentators who accuse his wife Meghan Markle of telling Oprah Winfrey a “lie”.

The Duke of Sussex was hired by the Aspen Institute nonprofit to serve as a part-time commissioner, alongside Rupert Murdoch’s daughter-in-law, Kathryn Murdoch. Together with 13 other commissioners and three co-chairs, they will spend six months examining what Aspen describes as the “information disorder problem”.

Prince Harry said: “The experience of today’s digital world has flooded us with an avalanche of disinformation, affecting our ability as individuals and also as societies to think clearly and truly understand the world in which we live.”

However, yesterday’s announcement prompted two frequent critics of the Duchess of Sussex to go to Fox News to accuse the couple of hypocrisy.

Dan Wootton, GB News anchor and former journalist for The sun, linked Aspen’s role to newspaper reports defying Harry and Meghan’s claim that they were married in a private ceremony three days before the official wedding at Windsor Castle.

A marriage certificate released by the UK General Registry confirms that the couple’s legally binding marriage was the only one broadcast on television worldwide, suggesting that the event mentioned in their revealing interview with Winfrey was an unofficial exchange of votes. .

Wootton said to Fox: “It is incredibly difficult. Meghan told Oprah that she would reveal her truth, but this is not her truth. It is a lie.

“She did not get married three days before the royal wedding. This is now proven. The marriage certificate was requested by the British media.

“What is particularly ironic about this is that today Prince Harry has been appointed commissioner of the Aspen Institute for disinformation.

“And in fact, maybe when you’re talking about disinformation, it seems to be coming out of Meghan’s mouth during your interview on Oprah.”

Piers Morgan, former host of Good morning Great Britain, added: “This is a girl who once dreamed of marrying her prince. She tells the story of The Little Mermaid in Oprah’s interview to melt our hearts about her meeting her prince and then she was silenced.

“The only thing these two did not remain is the silence. They never stop barking and are now barking on a global TV interview stage.”

The comments by Wootton and Morgan were based on a renewed attempt to defend the Duchess by famous friends like Serena Williams.

The tennis champion said: “Meghan is a great person and I think the epitome of strength, the epitome of confidence, the epitome of selflessness.

“And I know it’s not easy and you can see from the interview that it wasn’t easy, but she was very balanced and still had a lot of class. I just think that she really is one of the strongest people I know.”

The interview with Winfrey was surrounded by complaints and counter-complaints.

Days before its broadcast, British newspapers revealed that an intimidation complaint was filed against Meghan by an advisor at Kensington Palace in October 2018.

Jason Knauf, then communications secretary, told Prince William’s private secretary, Simon Case, that Meghan had taken two PAs out of the royal house.

However, Meghan’s friend Janina Gavankar went on British TV to say: “I also know why someone had to leave and it was for serious misconduct.

“The truth is going to come out. There are a lot of emails and text messages about it.”

CBS was also criticized after appearing to have made headlines that were supposedly from British newspapers, but do not appear to have been published online or in print.

The broadcaster did not comment, but Harpo Productions said it maintained the interview.
