Prince Harry’s devastating conversation about Kate Middleton after his marriage to William

The world watched as Prince William married the beautiful Kate Middleton in Westminster Abbey in April 2011.

The couple seemed completely in love when saying their vows and sharing a sweet kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Kate’s life changed forever when she officially became the Duchess of Cambridge and joined the royal family, but the day also had a major impact on the future of her godfather, Prince Harry.

At the time, he had an intermittent relationship with Chelsy Davy – a layer of Zimbabwe that Harry had known since school.

They were extremely good friends, and Chelsy supported Harry through some of the most difficult moments in his real life.

However, she struggled to cope with the real spotlight, and it was Kate and William’s extravagant wedding that last proved to her that it was not the life she wanted.

They weren’t really together at the time of the royal wedding, but Chelsy was still invited as one of Harry’s best friends – and someone who knew the bride and groom well.

It is said that Harry also read his godfather’s speech over the phone to Chelsy, and she advised him to cut out some of the most daring jokes.

In her actual biography Harry: Conversations with the Prince, journalist Angela Levin wrote: “Harry first read over the phone to Chelsy in South Africa, who despite being no longer his steady girlfriend, was also invited to the wedding.

“She suggested that he remove some of the hotter anecdotes, including a reference to Kate’s ‘killer legs’, as she didn’t think the Queen would take female humor well.”

But watching the wedding from the inside gave Chelsy a real insight into what her future as a royal wife would be like – and she didn’t like it.

They remain good friends, and Chelsy was invited to Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018.

In her book Battle of Brothers, royal expert Robert Lacey explains that she sat Harry down for a frank conversation shortly after the wedding, finally ending her long romance.

He writes: “In 2011, after more comings and goings, she finally decided to go – and it was, ironically, Kate and William’s big and glorious wedding that spring that ended her.

“According to a friend, she told Harry that she could never do the scarifications that Kate witnessed, especially when it came to shaping her life around the incessant press attention.”

Chelsy later described it as “so complete – crazy, scary and uncomfortable”.

In her book, Mrs. Levin adds: “A friend revealed that seeing the enormity and pomp of the day convinced Chelsy that she and Harry were right to part.

“Although they had a lot in common, she clearly saw that, coming from such different worlds, it could never have worked, especially since she valued her privacy and protected her so carefully.”
