Prince Harry recalls the loss of Princess Diana in a preface for children: ‘It left a huge hole inside me’

Prince Harry hopes to be able to help other children who, like him, are mourning the loss of a parent.

The Duke of Sussex wrote an exciting preface to “Hospital by the Hill”, a book aimed at children dealing with the death of a loved one in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, People magazine reported on Friday.

The 36-year-old recalled how he struggled to accept the death of his mother, Princess Diana, who was also 36 when he died suddenly in 1997 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Paris. Harry was 12 at the time.

“When I was a boy, I lost my mother,” wrote Harry, as quoted by the outlet. “At the time I didn’t want to believe or accept it, and it left a huge hole inside me. I know how you feel, and I want to assure you that in time, that hole will be filled with so much love and support.”

“We all deal with loss in a different way, but when a father goes to heaven, I am told that his spirit, his love and their memories are not,” Harry shared. “They are always with you and you can hold them forever. I think that is true.

“Well, I never met them, but I know this person was special to you, and they were incredibly kind, thoughtful and loving because of where they chose to work,” he continued. “Helping others is one of the most important tasks that anyone can perform.

“You can feel alone, you can feel sad, you can be angry, you can feel bad. That feeling will pass. And I will make a promise to you – you will feel better and stronger when you are ready to talk about how was makes you feel. “

“I hope this book will help to remind you of how special your father or loved one was,” wrote Harry. “And how special you are, too.”

The vehicle revealed that the new book will be published next week to coincide with Britain’s National Day of Reflection. It was written by Chris Connaughton and illustrated by Fay Troote.

The book tells the story of a young man who tries to understand the loss of his mother, a frontline employee at a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The vehicle noted that the book will be provided free of charge to any child or young person in the UK who has been similarly affected. It will also promote the services offered by three charities: Simon Says, Child Bereavement UK and Winston’s Wish.

Harry’s older brother, Prince William, is a patron of Child Bereavement UK. It is also headed by Julia Samuel, a close friend of Diana.

All three charities have pledged to help small children who need to deal with the losses.

Last weekend, Harry made sure that flowers were placed on Diana’s grave at the Spencer family estate in Althorp, Northamptonshire, for Britain’s Mother’s Day.

Harry currently lives in California with his wife Meghan Markle and son Archie. The family is expecting a baby girl this summer.
