Primary school in West Sussex, UK attacks mothers’ ‘shy’ clothes

A letter sent to families by Seymour Primary School entitled “Etiquette in the Park” allegedly requested that parents dress appropriately when leaving or picking up their children. “Wearing very poor clothes or for other hours of the day is not a good example,” said the letter, according to The Sun.

The reaction between the parents was mixed, according to the tabloid. “I’ve seen mothers in bathrobes and slippers, and one wearing a see-through miniskirt and a short top on a cold spring day – you could literally see everything,” The sun quoted one as saying. Another, however, apparently called the letter “exaggerated” and took offense at the tone.

In response, the school issued a statement to a local news outlet, the Crawley Observer, who published an article noting that the letter generated “national headlines”. “While well-intentioned as a guideline,” said the statement, “the school recognizes that the text could have been less prescriptive.”
