Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Connor Shaw will have a new job in South Carolina, according to new HC Shane Beamer.
Shaw ended the 2020 season as an interim coach for defenders in South Carolina, but there was no certainty that it would be considered a permanent option.

Beamer was a recruiting coordinator who helped bring Shaw to South Carolina more than a decade ago.
“The day I walked into the building, when I met Connor, the first thing I said to him was ‘Under no circumstances will I let you out of this building and not be part of this program,'” said Beamer Monday morning. . “He is all that is right about South Carolina football and I am not going to let him leave that building and go anywhere else, even if it is across campus to work in administration.”
Beamer announced 7 of his 10 assistants, but did not offer a specific role for Shaw at the time.
“My last conversation with Connor was that we would sit down again and discuss the details and create the details of his role that are right for both of us. He is excited about this position. We certainly talked about positions in the field and we talked about positions outside the field. I want him to do what is right for Connor and he wants to do what is right for South Carolina. I am confident that we are on the same page with this and really excited about the impact he will have on the program going forward. “

Shaw, not drafted by the University of South Carolina, started a single game for the Browns during the 2014 season.
He was 14-28, with 177 yards passing and an interception.
He would stay in the league for a few more years, ending on the Bears training team before ending his career in 2016.

Shaw in South Carolina
Shaw is the most winning quarterback in South Carolina’s history and was 27-5 as a starter during his career with them.
This included a 17-0 record at the Williams-Brice Stadium.
He also helped guide South Carolina for 3 consecutive 11-2 seasons from 2011 to 2013.
After ending his playing career, Shaw did not take long to become a coach.
In 2018, he signed a contract to coach hardheads at Furman University, an FCS school.
He would be leaving shortly before the start of the 2018 season because of conflicts with “a personal business opportunity”.
2020 would see him return to South Carolina, becoming the head of player development under former coach Will Muschamp.
South Carolina fired Muschamp on November 15, with three games missing from the schedule.
Interim coach Mike Bobo chose Shaw to be the interim coach for the defenders and also helped him work with offensive planning.
Bobo was not taken seriously for the permanent show, and went to Shane Beamer (Frank’s son, former Virginia Tech coach).
You don’t normally see remnants from one team to another, but Beamer did the opposite.
Needless to say, Gamecock fans expect a little more success in the years to come.
