The day after a pro-Trump rally turned into a riot and a violation of the Capitol building in Washington DC, President Trump is now focusing his attention on forgiving some of hip-hop’s favorite rappers.
According to a report by Bloomberg.com on Thursday (January 7), Trump is considering forgiving Lil Wayne, 38, and Kodak Black, 23, as well as himself, senior White House officials and family members.
Trump, 74, plans to announce forgiveness on January 19, his last full day in office. People familiar with the matter say the president’s ideas are currently being examined by senior advisers and the White House council office.
That would be a preventive pardon for Wayne and Trump, who are not currently in prison. Trump wants preventive pardons to protect anyone facing legal action for any federal crimes committed before pardons are issued.
Lil Wayne’s legal issues stem from a guilty plea that he entered a gun possession case in December 2020. Weezy filed a guilty plea in federal court for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon after to be arrested for the offense at the Miami- Executive Airport Opa Locka in 2019. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of having a previous conviction for possession of a firearm resulting from a 2007 arrest in New York City.
In October last year, Wayne met with President Trump to discuss criminal justice reform and the Platinum Plan for his campaign, which was met with many reactions from the hip-hop community.
“I just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus, in addition to what he has done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan will give the community real ownership,” Wayne tweeted along with a photo of him and Trump. “He listened to what we had to say today and guaranteed that he will and will be able to do that.”
Kodak Black is currently at the United States Penitentiary, Thomson, Illinois, where he is serving 12 months in prison for a 2019 prison sentence for attempted second-degree criminal possession of a gun, which runs concurrently with a 46-month prison sentence. for making a false statement in government paperwork when trying to buy a registered firearm in 2019.
During his time in prison, Kodak publicly asked President Trump for help. In September last year, his legal team contacted Trump to commute his sentence. Kodak is looking to change from a legal penalty or punishment to a minor one. Bradford Cohen, the rapper’s lawyer, confirmed XXL that “commutation has been filed” for Trump to shorten Kodak’s sentence.
A month later, in November 2020, the Florida rapper said he would donate $ 1 million to charities if Trump would forgive him for his crimes.
“If the president releases me, I will spend 1 million on charity the first year I leave. That’s all, ”tweeted Kodak at the time.
