President of Argentina tests positive for coronavirus

Argentine President Alberto Fernández tested positive for COVID-19, about two months after receiving a dose of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, reports CNN.

Fernández wrote on Twitter on Friday that he received a positive antigen test after observing a temperature of 37.3ºC (99.14ºF). Another PCR test confirmed this diagnosis.

“I am already isolated, following the current protocol and following the instructions of my personal doctor,” Fernandez said in a tweet translated from Spanish. “I contacted the people I met in the past 48 hours to assess whether they are close contacts.”

CNN notes that it is still possible to become infected with the coronavirus after receiving an injection of vaccine, which has been shown to reduce the likelihood of infection, especially serious infection. An analysis published by the British medical journal The Lancet in February revealed that the Russian Sputnik V vaccine is approximately 91.6 effective.

The Moscow-based Gamaleya Institute that developed the Sputnik V vaccine, wished Fernandez well on Twitter.

“We are sad to hear that. Sputnik V is 91.6% effective against infections and 100% effective against severe cases. If the infection is really confirmed and occurs, vaccination guarantees a quick recovery without serious symptoms. We wish you a recovery. quick !, “wrote the institute on Twitter.

The start of the vaccine’s launch in Argentina was marked by a scandal, notes CNN, after it was revealed that around 70 people had early access to the COVID-19 vaccine, including Fernández.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Argentina confirmed more than 2.3 million cases of coronavirus and more than 56,000 related deaths.
