“Who cares!” Trump wrote to Carteris.

Former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, also responded to Trump’s letter on Twitter with his own rebuke.

“Which leads me to your blatant attempt to get the media’s attention to divert attention from your dark history as a union,” Trump wrote. “Your organization has done little for its members and nothing for me – other than charging fees and promoting dangerous non-American policies and ideas – as is evident from its huge unemployment rates and lawsuits from famous actors, who even recorded a video asking ‘Why that the union is not fighting for me? ‘”

Trump was referring to a video posted last year by actors such as Mark Hammill, Whoopi Goldberg and Morgan Freeman, among others, who criticized the union’s health insurance benefit cuts.

“Donald Trump attacked the values that this union considers most sacred – democracy, truth, respect for our fellow Americans of all races and religions, and the sanctity of the free press,” Carteris said last month. “There is a direct line to his unbridled disregard for the truth about attacks on journalists by his followers.”

“Our most important role as a union is the protection of our members. The sad truth is that the words and actions of this individual in the past four years have represented real damage to the members of our broadcast journalists,” said the National Executive Director of SAG-AFTRA , David White. “The council’s resolution addresses this effort to undermine press freedom and reaffirms the principles on which our democratic society is based, and which we must all work to protect and preserve.”
