There was no shortage of rumors about the fashion shown on the opening day, and Reyleigh Hampton, 4, wanted to get in on the action.
The preschooler went viral after recreating the monochromatic pants of former First Lady Michelle Obama and the high-necked look and sharing it on social media with a photo showing Zayden Lowe dressed as former President Barack Obama.
Reyleigh’s photo caught the eye of Michelle Obama herself, who posted the image on her social media accounts and declared that the pair “nailed it!”
Reyleigh’s aunt Zoe Hampton said that while watching the opening last month on television, her family “gaped” as soon as she saw the Obamas arrive.
“They looked absolutely stunning,” said Hampton. “Ryleigh had recently recreated some looks by Kamala Harris and Prince, and we knew as soon as we saw Michelle and Barack perform that we couldn’t miss the opportunity to recreate them.”
Hampton’s grandmother started work and helped create the look for the girl.
“We always jokingly said, ‘What if Michelle Obama really saw this?’ but when it really came true, we were really excited, “said Hampton.” It really doesn’t get any better than that. “
Reyleigh and Zayden, who wore a jacket and tie, posed for the photo outside the Florence County Library in South Carolina.
Hampton’s aunt says Ryleigh loves to dress up and fell in love with burgundy clothes, which made the photo shoot even more fun.
“Although at this age I think Ryleigh is stuck in how cute the clothes are and how cool it is to have a photo shoot with her best friend, I hope that as she gets older, she realizes the deeper meaning of the photo,” said Hampton. “The Obamas are amazing models and I hope she aspires to be a strong and confident African American woman like Michelle Obama. That’s why acting is important. I hope she and Zayden realize that they can be anything they want!”
