Photographs that circulated on social networks showed Erik Lamela, Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso at the party in London, with the presence of West Ham player Manuel Lanzini.
UK government restrictions prohibit mixing with other people indoors, with London in the upper Tier 4 blockade area due to the rapid spread of a new Covid-19 strain.
Tottenham reacted angrily, with the three players facing disciplinary action, while West Ham said Lanzini was “strongly reminded of his responsibilities”.
Lamela was not included in Tottenham’s squad for Saturday’s game against Leeds, while starter Reguilon, a summer signing from Real Madrid, was an unused substitute. Lo Celso is injured.
“We are extremely disappointed and strongly condemn this image that shows some of our players with family and friends together at Christmas, especially as we know the sacrifices that everyone across the country has made to stay safe during the festive period,” said Tottenham in communicated.
“The rules are clear, there are no exceptions and we regularly remind all of our players and staff about the latest protocols and their responsibilities for joining and setting an example.
“The matter will be dealt with internally.”
Tottenham Member of Parliament David Lammy also used social media to give his views, labeling the trio “stupid and selfish” in a post.
The remaining Tottenham players ignored the controversy on the pitch with a 3-0 victory over Leeds United, advancing to third place in the Premier League standings, four points behind the top two Liverpool and Manchester United.
Leeds, so impressive after their promotion, got the better of the first openings, before Steven Bergwijn was knocked down by Ezgjan Alioski and Harry Kane made no mistake in taking a penalty kick to give Tottenham the lead.
He then again agreed with attack partner Son Heung-min to send the South Korean to the second, his 100th for Tottenham.
The three points were effectively sealed when the corner of Son’s second half was scored by Toby Alderweireld at the near post.
Matt Doherty’s late dismissal for a second yellow card took some of the shine off an excellent Spurs win, but coach José Mourinho was satisfied with “three important points”.
Mourinho made a fleeting reference to the disciplinary issues faced by three of his stars after breaking the rules.
“I think each club does its best for its players to keep them safe, but there are times in private life that you cannot control,” he told BT Sport.
“Not everyone can be blamed, so we have to continue,” he added.
Mourinho criticized the Premier League after his team’s match against Fulham was canceled at the end of the week and he doubled his views on the postponements.
“I go back to the initial rules: if you have 14 players available, you have to play. I see no other reason for not doing so.”
Previously, Fulham’s game against Burnley on Sunday was also delayed because of Covid-19’s strengths at the West London club.
