The first iOS 14.5 beta was released earlier this month for developers with several new features, and iOS 14.5 beta 2 arrived this week with even more changes. Among the new features, Apple has made some interesting changes to the Music app, which now includes a new way to share lyrics and revamped menus. Keep reading while we detail what has changed in the Music app with iOS 14.5.
Before that, the first release of iOS 14 brought major improvements to Apple Music and the Music app on the iPhone and iPad, such as support for home screen widgets, autoplay mode, a new design for the iPad app version and a refined search guide. With iOS 14.5, Apple continued to enhance the Music app experience.
Swipe gestures on albums and playlists
Similar to what currently exists in apps like Mail, the Music app now offers swipe gestures with some quick actions available on albums and playlists. Users can swipe right on a song to reveal the Play Next and Play Last controls, or swipe left to access the Add to Library, Download or Delete options.
Unfortunately, there is no way to change the behavior of each gesture, but I hope that Apple will bring this feature in a future update.
Apple introduced a new pop-over menu with iOS 14, which is more intuitive and faster to access. With iOS 14.5, this new pop-over menu was widely adopted in the Music app. It is also easier to access the pop-over menu in the Music app with iOS 14.5, as Apple has added a “More options” button for each individual song, so you no longer have to press and hold them.
In addition to new pop-over menus and the “More options” button, Apple has also changed the icons for some buttons in the music application, such as the Download button – which is now just a down arrow instead of a cloud with an arrow .
Share song lyrics
IOS 13.5 was the first version to allow users to share Apple Music songs on Instagram Stories. Apple has now enabled a new option with the iOS 14.5 beta that also allows Apple Music subscribers to share specific snippets of lyrics on social media.
After tapping the “More options” button, the Music application now shows two buttons: Share music and Share lyrics. When choosing the Share Lyrics option, the user can select up to three verses of the letter to share on Instagram Stories, Facebook Messenger and even iMessage.
Set the default music player for Siri requests
The first iOS 14.5 beta allows users to change the default music player for Siri requests. Unfortunately, this option was disabled in the second beta of iOS 14.5 – perhaps because it was still not working as expected. We hope that Apple will enable it again before the official launch of iOS 14.5.
You can see how this feature should work in the video below:
IOS 14.5 beta is currently available to developers and users registered with the Apple Beta Software Program, and we don’t know yet when Apple plans to release it to the public. The update also comes with other new features, including a new option to unlock the iPhone using the Apple Watch.
