Possible heavy storms to severe thursdays

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – The unstable climate will continue for the next few days, as a series of storm systems run through the southeast. The strongest of them will arrive on Thursday, bringing the threat of strong storms to strong ones. A paralyzed front across the area is maintaining a large cloud cover nearby today. Some isolated showers are possible for the rest of the afternoon. Highs will range from 70 south of I-26 to the 50s and 60s north of I-26. The chance of rain will increase this evening as a disturbance moves through the area. Rain, and even some storms, are possible before midnight. St. Patrick’s Day will be a very dry day, with more clouds than sunshine and some isolated rains. The maximums will be close to 70 degrees. The cold front mentioned will move through the Deep South on Wednesday and will approach the Lowcountry on Thursday. The day will likely start dry and mild before a series of storms approach the area in the afternoon or evening. The atmosphere seems prepared to quickly intensify any storms that develop and move them to our area before the cold front. The main threat will be gusts of wind and hail, but strong isolated tornadoes will also be possible. We issue a FIRST DAY OF ALERT TIME for Thursday to ensure that you and your family are safe! Expect constant updates on the changing weather over the next few days! Much colder behind the front on the weekend, maximum in the 50s and 60s.
