Juventus Champions League title hopes suffered a little in Porto on Wednesday, with the Portuguese side winning 2-1. But a late goal for Federico Chiesa’s Juventus brought the team to life after an away defeat in the first leg of the round of 16. Porto scored in the first minutes of each half, taking advantage of the visitors’ lack of concentration to put themselves in a good position before the second leg.
It was Mehdi Taremi who hit the back of the net two minutes after a terrible mistake by Rodrigo Betancur that put Porto 1-0 up.
Betancur tried to return the ball to the goalkeeper, but instead placed it on a tray for the Porto forward. On the other side of the break, Moussa Marega finished off a well-placed shot after 46 minutes to give the hosts a lead advantage in a match where Juve looked far from their best.
With Cristiano Ronaldo contained, it was Chiesa’s fantastic submission in the 82nd minute, after a pass by Adrien Rabiot, who revived Juve’s chances with a vital away goal.
The second leg, scheduled for March 9, would see Juve advance with a 1-0 victory thanks to the away goal.
