About 40 people damaged businesses and property in downtown Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday night, police said.
The group met in the city’s Director Park before marching downtown around 7 pm, police said in a press release on Thursday. During the march, members of the crowd smashed windows, fired paintballs and painted several buildings, including City Hall and Portland Police Headquarters.

Other damaged properties include the Oregon Historical Society, the University Club, the First Republican Bank, a Starbucks and several restaurants.

Police said officers tried to contact someone who led the march, but his vehicle was also spray-painted.
No arrests were made. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the vandalism to contact the police at [email protected].
Portland gained national prominence during the summer, after protests erupted in response to George Floyd’s death in police custody on May 25 in Minneapolis. For more than 100 consecutive nights, the city was marked by violence. The demonstrations peaked in late July, when President Trump sent federal law enforcement officers to prevent attacks on a federal court and other U.S. properties.

Portland and other major US metropolitan areas have seen a significant increase in crime this year, according to recent statistics. At least 850 shootings have been reported in the year to date on December 24, an increase of 116% over the 393 incidents recorded year after year. In addition, there was a 93% increase in shootings. This year, 228 people were shot and 118 last year.
